Snow Skiing in Morocco

Did you know you can go snow skiing in Morocco? Most people think of shopping in Marrakesh, hot desert trips or the coast when booking a holiday to Morocco, however it is home to Africa’s highest ski resort in the snow capped High Atlas mountains.

If you are visiting Morocco in the winter, day trips can be taken from some of the main destinations, including Marrakesh and Fez for a fun day out. The Moroccan ski season lasts from December to March, sometimes early April.

Whether you have never skied before and want have a go or you are an experienced off piste skier there’s something for everyone in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains.

The best places to hit the slopes in Morocco are;

Oukaimeden

Oukaimeden in the High Atlas Mountains, around 40 miles south of Marrakesh is the most well known ski resort Morocco. This resort, the highest in Africa, (skiing area between 2600 and 3200 metres) is enjoyed by both Moroccans and tourists, ideal for families and beginners as well as more experienced skiers.
There is plenty of accommodation available and ski equipment is available to rent or skiers can take day trips easily from Marrakesh (the drive is about an hour and a half).
