Moroccan Sweet Bread

A simple recipe for delicious Moroccan sweet bread.


  • 1kg flour
  • 1 glass of soft butter
  • 1 glass of caster sugar
  • 1 half of glass of sesame
  • a quarter of a glass of anis seeds
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbl spoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of yeast
  • salt

In a large bowl put the flour. Then add the sesame and anis seeds. Next, add the caster sugar, the eggs, baking powder and yeast.

Pour the milk gradually onto the mixture and stir it altogether.

Keep on mixing well with your hands. To obtain a consistent dough, you have to work it for 5-10 minutes.

Roll the dough into a big chunk, and sprinkle some flour so that it won’t stick to the surface.

Then, make 6, 9, 12 or 15 balls out of the dough. it has to be a multiple of 3, remember each plat needs 3 parts.
Cover it with a towel and let it rest for half an hour.

Once it has had time to rest, take the dough and roll each ball into long thin rolls. (Make sure you have 3 to make each plait.)

Start plaiting the dough together neatly and tuck the ends in. Make a few! Once they are done, wash then with some egg yolk. This will make them nice and golden. Place your finished rolls on a baking tray ready for the oven

Preheat oven at 180C, gas mark 4 and leave for 30 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven sprinkle with a little sugar and enjoy!
