Screening and Book signing with Mahi Binebine

Mahi Binebine is one of the world’s most popular Moroccan novelists and artists. He was acclaimed by The Observer (‘a rare voice’), and the Literary Review (‘savage, compelling’) for Welcome to Paradise.

Horses of God, published by Granta, is inspired by the 2003 terrorist attacks in Casablanca. It tells the story of Yachine, a slum child from Sidi Moumen, trying to make a decent life for himself. However, he is lured toward extremist views, eventually becomes a suicide bomber. Mahi Binebine manages to tackle such a controversial issue with honesty and compassion. This prize-winning universally acclaimed novel was adapted for the big screen by Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch.

Mahi Binebine will talk about the challenges of adapting novels for the big screen and touch on the issues raised in the book, after the screening of Horses of God and a book signing.
